Seasonal Updates
Tune Ups & Regular Maintenance
Each season the average furnace or boiler in central Wisconsin will run about 2000 hours. Air conditioners in this area will run on average about 400 hours. The energy consumption of a unit that is not well maintained can increase. Lack of maintenance may also see increased: rust & corrosion, scale, soot & dirt deposits, environmental pollutants, increased levels of Carbon Monoxide (CO), poor performance of the heating/cooling system, and potentially higher repair bills.

Just like the average automobile, regular maintenance can increase the life of the equipment. A good maintenance program is not cheap, but it will normally reduce the number of nuisance service calls for minor repairs. Preseason tune ups can get your equipment ready for the heating or cooling season before it is needed. By doing this, your unit can be ready to run at its best when it is needed.

However, having regular repairs to your furnace or air conditioner every year is not the same. When your units breaks down and you must call for service, the technician comes out to repair the problem. Normally, this does not include doing a tune up. Some units are repaired every year but are never maintained, there is a difference! When the homeowner calls and has no heat or a/c, the call requires repairs to get the unit operating again providing heating or cooling for the home.

Remember the amount of hours your furnace runs. Just think, if you ran your car 2000 hours driving in town at 25 mph would be 50,000 miles. Would you have done some regular maintenance on your car in that time?

Regular maintenance on your furnace, boiler, or air conditioner can be scheduled at a time that is convenient for you and your HVAC Professional Technician. This cost is a lot less than having the equipment breakdown. Breakdowns never happen at a good time.

Check your air filter on a monthly basis. Many of the new media filters are good for up to 90, 120 days, or 1 year; “ up to“ being the key. They may only last 30 days or 6 months. Compare your filter to a clean piece of white paper. When the filter has picked up a lot of dirt, the surface will be discolored and it is time for a new filter.
